Local Chapter funds Pitsenbarger Awards for Seymour Johnson AFB

The AFA sponsors the Pitsenbarger Awards that provide a one-time award of
$400 to selected top USAF enlisted personnel graduating from the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) who plan to pursue a baccalaureate degree. Application requirements include submission of a narrative statement describing extracurricular activities and explaining their significance. Emphasis is on those activities that indicate leadership, citizenship, teamwork, community service, personal development and dedication. The narrative also includes undergraduate plans (e.g., school, field of study, future goals). Applicants must also show proof of current enrollment or intent to enroll in an accredited program leading to a baccalaureate degree. Citations and awards representing distinguished activity are also submitted with the application. A committee makes selections based on job performance, scholastic achievement, educational goals and leadership qualities. Unfortunately, the AFA funding was depleted when Seymour Johnson submitted their award winners this year. The local chapter was informed of this and the executive committee voted and graciously approved funding for the five awards; four through the Education Foundation and one through the local chapter. When this announcement was made at graduation it garnered a hearty round of applause.  The Base Education Office was grateful for the Chapter covering the funding and wanted to be sure that their thanks, as well as the recipients, was conveyed to the Scott Berkeley AFA Chapter.
