Business Meeting

Minutes
The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as corrected.
Announcements
A. Paul Ritty extended an invitation to visit the Local History and Genealogy Room at Wayne Public Library.
B. Shirley reminded members who have accounts with the State Library for use of the North Carolina Information Network that accounts not used within six months are deleted. Since the State Library is moving off of the PRIME computer, accounts deleted over the summer will not be reactivated.
C. Pamela Doyle addressed the changes that will be coming as the community colleges move to the Dynix Automated Center (DAC).
D. Since the ECS Pad is being phased out, Shirley distributed a printout of the menu. Members were asked to indicate the services that they would like to have available on DAC. This information will be forwarded to appropriate personnel at the North Carolina Community College System office.
E. It appears that the State Library will focus on services to public libraries only. Dan Swartout explained that public libraries are receiving telecomputing accounts. Other types of libraries will need to contract with local providers or with Interpath, a state contract provider. With the creation of a web site for all state agencies, many of the NCIN databases are now available on the Internet.
Staff development
A. Shirley has talked with the Dean of Continuing Education. Continuing Education will set up classes for WIN members. Times suggested are 3:30 or 4:00 pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. Classes could meet for 8 sessions of 1.5 hours each for a total of 120 hours for a cost of $35. The PC lab has 20 computers.
B. Katherine Wood and Diane Kester will work on a questionnaire to explore the computer related staff development needs of WIN members.
C. Members expressed their interest in informal discussion of services and projects of the libraries in Wayne County. Time was allotted for each one present to speak of new acquisitions or programs.

Program

Sandy spoke on the founding, clients, and services of the professional library at Wayne Memorial Hospital. As a special library with professional clients, the library is service oriented. The Library also houses a copy of the North Carolina General Statues. Members were given an opportunity to see the online database services as well as a tour of the facility.

The next meeting will be held at 4:00 pm on February 22, 1996 at the new Wayne County Public Schools Professional Library. Hostess will be Olivia Pierce.
