Business Meeting

	I. Minutes

The minutes of the previous meeting were approved.

	II. Announcements

	    A.	Dot Elledge provided an update on the Dynix Automation

		Center (DAC).

		1. The new login procedure has eliminated the use of

the first user ID and password. Instructions for

logging in have been mailed to each library.

		2. The menu screen has been expanded with searching

now available by author words, topics, and call

		     number.

		3. The menu option "Gateways" provides telnet access

to selected services. Currently available are

First Search, Learning Link, and Joyner Library

at East Carolina University. For additional links,

please give Dot the name, IP address, and login

		     information.

		4. Members are asked to read and delete e-mail

regularly to avoid mis-use of computer disk space.

		5. Other library collections available through the

DAC at this time include Johnston Community

College (JT) and Pitt Community College (PT).

		6. Details for borrowing from the other DAC libraries

		     are still be developed.

	   B.	To address accrediting agencies, the cooperative

agreement for the WIN libraries should be reviewed

periodically. Shirley appointed Gary Barefoot, Kay

Baumwart, Mary Ann Parker, Pat Setzer, and Marie

Edwards to the committee to review the current

		cooperative agreement.

	   C.	Olivia reported that an account with Interpath was

being established for each school and an Acceptable Use

Policy (AUP) was being developed. She distributed

copies of the Wayne County Public Schools Technology

		Plan.

III. Union List of Serials in Wayne County

	   A.	Gary distributed an update of the serials list.

		1. Chuck Darden, a student at Mount Olive College, was

introduced. Since last fall Mr. Darden has been

working to make additions, corrections, and

consolidate the individual lists that have been

		    provided to them.

		2. Gary explained the format for the holdings as well

as the abbreviations used in the listings.

		    (a)	Any title with an abbreviation has been spelled

		        out.

		    (b)	If the ISBN number is not known, it is

		        designated as N/A.

		    (c)	A period (.) signifies the end of the run of

		        holdings.

		    (d)	A dash signifies a continuing subscription.

		    (e)	The format (print, microfiche, microfilm) of

each title is not noted. If a patron needs a

title which is not in print format, the patron

will be asked to go to the appropriate library

			to use the non-print format.

		3. Limited copies of the list were printed. Shirley

will make additional copies. Libraries are asked

to proof read their library's information as soon

as possible and return the list to Gary. The

deadline for submitting corrections is the end of

		    the school this spring.

		4. Robbie Price of H. Cox Company has offered to

duplicate the final list when it is ready.

		5. Gary summarized the project noting that, now that

this project is almost done, the libraries in Wayne

County are in a better situation than ever before

to engage in cooperative selection, buying, and

storing expensive titles. Through this project,

broken runs of a periodical title may be

		    consolidated into one collection.

	IV. Staff Development

	     A.	Shirley expressed thanks to the staff development

survey committee: Diane and Katherine. She also

expressed thanks to Judy Hodges for compiling the

		information from the survey.

	     B.	An Internet for Librarians workshop for 30 hours has

been scheduled through Continuing Education at Wayne

Community College. The course will be held on

Wednesday afternoons from 2:00-5:00 p.m. in Room 206

of the LC building. The first hour will cover the

essentials of using Windows. A second section will be

scheduled for Saturdays, if there is enough interest.

	     C.	Diane announced two sections of the Internet course

EDTC 6050 at East Carolina University. The first one

will be during the first semester of summer school

(May 14-June 18). The second will be during the fall

		1996 semester.
