Members were welcomed by Sherry Smith, library media coordinator. The meeting was called to order by Cliff Rhodes, chair.  A welcome was extended to all newcomers, especially the school library media coordinators who had just held a meeting prior to the WIN meeing. Self introductions were made by all in attendance.

Business Meeting

The minutes of the November 18, 1999 meeting were approved.

Old Business:

  1. Lists have been submitted to Tony Howell,  W.T. Cox Subscriptions Inc. for the creation of the Wayne County Union List of Serials.  This product will provide valuable data to locate journal articles within the county.
  2. NCLive passwords were discussed and are available to library patrons of their respective library - Wayne County Public Library, Moye Library at Mount Olive College, and the Wayne Community College Library.
  3. NCWiseOwl is available for school library patrons. Parents are also able to secure the password and are finding it user-friendly and helpful for working with their children.
New Business:
  1. Donna Philips and Mary Lynn Laughlin, Wayne County Public Children's Librarians, presented the market initiative "Libraries: The Very Best Place to Start."  They will launch the awareness campaign with a program on April 8, 2000. The Mad Hatter's Tea Party and the "Tangle of Tales" puppet show will be at the Wayne County Public Library. The Start Me Up Game will begin on that day and continue through April 15, 2000.  The drawing for prizes will be held on Monday, April 18th.
  2. Many of the schools will participate in the campaign with the Roll-out and Big Books as well as separate games at the individual libraries.
  3. All game cards for the Start Me Up Game, will be sent to the North Carolina State Library to be a part of the statewide sweepstakes drawing.
  4. Directions were distributed for electronically accessing the following library collections:
  5. Rhodes reviewed the WIN policy concerning discarded items.  Members may bring them or a list of items to each meeting to be made available to other member libraries.
Book sharing
 
Discarded books were available for other libraries.
The next meeting will be at 4 PM on May 11, 2000 at Wayne County Public Library.
