April 28,2004

The Wayne Information Network met on April 28, 2004 at 4:00 PM at Wayne Community College. Kaye Albertson, Vice President for Academic Affairs at Wayne Community College welcomed the attendees to the college. Dr. Shirley Jones presided. The following were in attendance:

Business Meeting

Silvia Judd was introduced as a new member. She will be working part-time at Wayne Community College Library and part-time at Wayne Memorial Hospital Library. Another new member, Sukey Harper, is librarian at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Library.

Old Business:

There was no old business brought before the group.

New Business:

Wayne Community College Library web pages: Dot Elledge distributed two versions of revised web pages for the college library. Discussion was held with suggestions to be submitted to the revision committee.
Attendees shared links to useful resources. Sukey Harper distributed a handout with governmental and parental sites. Susie Parris distributed a list of sites of interest to reference librarians, including a guide to online shopping.
Book sharing, a way to recycle discards from one library to another, was held. Since the Goldsboro-Wayne community selected "To Kill a Mockingbird" for their shared title, several copies were available for school libraries.
The effects on library services and the seriousness of the state budged crisis were discussed. Interlibrary loan, long distance phone calls, and purchases have been threatened.

Program:

The video, "Give 'em the Pickle", was viewed and discussed. This staff development opportunity focused on customer service. Four areas were included: priority, attitude, consistency, and teamwork.

The next meeting will be in the fall at Wayne County Public Library.

The meeting was adjourned for refreshments provided by the faculty and staff of Wayne Community College Library.
