The Wayne Information Network met on May
13, 2002 at 4:00 PM in the meeting room of Wayne County Public Library.
Lovely Forte, Chair, welcomed those present and each person was introduced.

events was prepared and distributed by Lovely Forte.
Business Meeting
The minutes of the February 11, 2002 meeting

Old Business:

The by-laws changes were reviewed. One
word was edited, changing the mission to read:
The mission of WIN will be to enhance cooperative ....
The motion, made by Shirley Jones, was seconded and passed.

The status of the Union List of Serials was
raised. Marion Waters stated that the person who was combining the data
had left the public library. Diane Kester is to contact Entersoft
to see if the data they have been provided would be usable. The goal is
to have the Wayne County Union List of Serials available online.
New Business:
-
The effects on library services and the seriousness
of the state budged crisis were discussed. Interlibrary loan, long distance
phone calls, and purchases have been threatened.
Announcements:
-
Jane Rustin reported that the North Carolina
Public Library Directors Association is considering hiring a marketing
agency, Capital Strategies, to keep legislators and public library needs
connected.

Diane Kester reported that the Executive Board
of the North Carolina Library Association has been invited to join in the
effort.
Program:
-
Jane Rustin, Director, Wayne County Public
Library and member of the Steering Committee of e-Wayne http://www.e-wayne.org/
presented a program about the e-nc initiative of the Rural Internet Access
Authority. One goal is to provide affordable Internet access to rural
citizens. Currently, the public library is the only free access.
Many citizens do not know about the information that is available from
Internet resources. There will be grant money available for some of the
county plans to be funded. Sharon Syck is e-champion for the county.
Committees are seeking volunteers and members of WIN were encouraged to
sign up for one of the following committees:

The next meeting will
be on August 12, 2002 at either Mount Olive College or Wayne Community
College.

provided by the Wayne County Public Library.
