Members were welcomed by Shirley Jones and the staff of the Wayne Community College Library. The meeting was called to order by Cliff Rhodes, chair.  New members of the library community were introduced including Terry Mullins, Cheryl Mondragon, and Janie Best from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.

Business Meeting

Corrections were made to the minutes of the May meeting. Members of the Nominating Committee were corrected to read Marie Edwards and Ramona Dunkley. The minutes were approved as corrected.

Old Business:

Work continues on the Wayne County Union List of Serials. Wayne Community College is no longer getting NewsBank and indexes and microfiche have been discontinued. Cliff will contact Robby Price at Cox to make the database available electronically. Gary pointed out that it may be time to scratch the printed list and reenter holdings since the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base library has dropped the subscription to ProQuest.

NCLIVE is going to provide remote access, i.e. a patron with an ID from his library will be able to use this state resource from home. A discussion was held concerning

Wayne Community College has written a Remote Access Policy" and "NCLIVE Password Agreement." General public patrons will be asked to visit their public library for a instructions and a password.

Mount Olive College has an added responsibility to serve students at four remote sites. Students are given their password upon completion of their bibliographic instruction class in each cohert. Two forms have been created (1) informational and (2) patron signed agreement.

What's News and Views Seymour Johnson Air Force Base is serving students through the Education Office and Library. Six colleges offer courses on base. Janie Best from the Education Office spoke on the services offered through the base. The library at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base is contracted with McCloud Associates. Cheryl Mondragon is librarian. The library has three priorities in library services: (1) mission support, (2) education, and (3) general recreation.

Wayne County Schools. Two new library media specialists were introduced. Kitty Harrell serves Spring Creek Elementary School and Beverly Lingerfelt has returned to Wayne County and serves Eastern Wayne Middle School. The schools are in the evaluation stage of selecting online resources appropriate to K-12 students. The new service will be announced in September. Funding will be through the Technology Literacy Grant for the first year.

Announcement The retirement banquet for Gary Barefoot will be Saturday, September 18, 1999 at 7 PM in the Murphy Center, Mount Olive College. Reservations may be made by calling 658-7167. Book sharing

Discarded books were available for other libraries. A microfiche printer will be reassigned from Seymour Johnson library to Wayne Country Day School library.
