MINUTES
August 19, 1996


Preceding the meeting the following individuals met for dinner at El Maguey Restaurant in Mount Olive: Annie Albertson, Pam Wood, Gwen Lee Cox, Gary Barefoot, Mount Olive College Library; Bonnie Whitsell, Wayne Country Day School; Kathleen Baumuart, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Library; Marie Edwards, Cherry Hospital; Diane Kester, East Carolina University; Shirley Jones, Susan Parris, and Donna Potter, Wayne Community College; Beverly Lingerfelt, Brogden Middle School; Gwendolyn Shipman, Goldsboro High School; and Ramona Dunkley, Goldsboro Middle School.

The Wayne Information Network (WIN) met Monday, August 19, 1996 in the Moye Library of Mount Olive College at 7:00 P.M. with Gary Barefoot serving as host.

The business meeting was called to order by Bonnie Whitesell, chair.

Business Meeting

I. Minutes

The minutes of the previous meeting were approved.

II. Announcements

  1. Another session of the Internet for Librarians class will begin on September 4, 1996 (2:00 - 5:00 PM) at Wayne Community College in the Learning Center Building Room 206. The cost is $35 for the 30 hour class.
  2. Shirley shared that Katherine Wood's husband, Harding, is critically ill. Their home address was shared with members.
  3. Bonnie introduced the idea of calling chains to keep members informed of activities. She will work on the design of the chain.
  4. Gary asked if there had been any follow-up to the interest that W.T. Cox Subscriptions has expressed in the Wayne County Union List of Series. He will check on this.

III. Old Business

  1. Wayne County Union List of Serials: Gary reminder members to check the database printout of the WIN ULS for corrections so that it can be published.

IV. New Business

  1. Several library discards were exchanged:

Bonnie introduced Emery Taylor of Tarmac. Mr. Taylor, equipped with projection, screen, and computers, presented several CD-ROM products. The difference between home versions and school versions of CD-ROM products was explained, pointing out that home versions are usually sold without documentation to be used with instruction. Next Meeting

The next meeting is scheduled to be held on November 14, 1996 at one of the special libraries. Arrangements for dinner will be announced.
